Ashqarid – The Sand Strider
Monster (Beast)
This imposing arthropod Artifact projects immediate lethality on the map, its massive segmented stinger coiled high over an armored carapace. Emerging aggressively from fractured desert rock, its heavy mandibles and spine-ridged plating cut a terrifying silhouette on the grid. Keepers looking to inject sudden tension into an arid crossing, an ambush in the dunes, or a subterranean crawl will find this apex predator brings an unmatched sense of danger to the encounter.
Tabletop Lore
A megafauna arthropod native to remote, rocky mountain ranges, the Ashqarid—more commonly known as the Sand Strider—is a highly specialized ambush predator. Though their nests are anchored in craggy high-altitude peaks, these creatures descend to hunt the sweeping desert dunes below, burrowing deep beneath the shifting sands. They can wait for weeks in a profound state of hibernation, sensing the minute vibrations of an approaching traveler’s footsteps. Once a target is identified, they move beneath the earth at incredible speeds, completely undetected, leaving their chosen prey with almost no chance of survival.
Highlight
The visual draw of this Artifact lies in its massive, deeply segmented stinger assembly, which provides dramatic vertical scale and creates a clear focal point that signals a high-threat encounter to everyone at the table.
Encounter Insight
The Sand Strider functions beautifully as a hidden hazard or an aggressive desert boss. In tactical scenarios, its coiled posture is ideal for sudden tremors or ambush encounters, forcing Keepers and players to navigate around its sweeping reach while frontline martial characters try to bypass its heavy front mandibles.
