Gorgaslug, Scourge of the Mire – The Carrion Snail

Monstrosity (Monster)

Lurching forward on a heavy, textured muscular foot while unhinging a circular maw lined with rows of needle-sharp teeth, this predatory gastropod dominates damp undergrounds. Atop its spiral whorled shell sits a thick mound of decaying autumn leaves, creeping bramble roots, and bone trophies skewered by a discarded broadsword. Keepers staging encounters in stagnant marshlands, overgrown dungeon depths, or blighted forest clearings will find this Artifact delivers gross physical weight, macabre character, and unmistakable table presence across the grid.

Tabletop Lore

Native to the rotting sinkholes and sunken bogs bordering primeval realms, carrion snails slowly scour the forest floor for fallen game and incautious wanderers. Rather than retreating into hiding when threats appear, they secrete corrosive mucus and drag their massive shells directly over barricades to engulf their quarry. The detritus accumulated across their backs serves as a mobile cemetery and natural camouflage, allowing them to resemble mossy boulder hummocks until an unhinged jaw snaps shut over an unsuspecting tracker.

Highlight

A grotesque, characterful predatory snail sculpt featuring a wide shrieking fanged maw, stalked sensory eyestalks, and an overgrown spiral shell laden with bone debris, leaf litter, and an impaled sword.

Encounter Insight

Deploy this beast as an ambush predator camouflaged as natural forest debris, an environmental hazard in deep swamps, or a summoned pet guarding a hag coven’s lair. In tactical combat, Keepers can take advantage of its broad footprint to choke narrow subterranean passageways or wet hollows, using its slimy bulk to slow advancing frontliners while threatening vulnerable adventurers with crushing bites and acidic secretions.

Features

  • Gaping Predatory Maw: Sculpted with a wide, open circular throat displaying layered needle fangs, fleshy inner lips, and a lolling tongue.
  • Stalked Sensory Antennae: Features thick, bulbous eye stalks extending upward from wrinkly facial skin folds.
  • Detritus Shell Cairn: A massive spiral shell covered in a thick mound of decaying foliage, tangled vines, human skulls, rib cages, and an upright pommel-hilted sword.
  • Pebbled Gastropod Hide: Detailed with heavy wrinkling, pitted moisture warts, layered muscular folds, and sprawling slime-skirt borders.
  • Scenic Mire Plinth: Anchored to a mossy stone shelf detailed with fine gravel, clustered woodland toadstools, and partially buried bone fragments.

Designed For

  • Swamp & Underdark Expeditions: Populates foul bogs, fungus-infested caves, flooded dungeon basements, and decaying witchwood groves.
  • Grotesque Ambush Brutes: Operates naturally as a flail snail variant, mutated gastropod, swamp mimic, or hag beast.
  • Slime Effects & Weathered Bone Painting: An exceptional canvas for painting wet gloss slime trails, vibrant autumn leaf mounds, aged bone skulls, and rusted blade edges.
