Tabletop Lore

Workers and warriors created by master inventor Tomas Lumens after a decade of trial, error, and fruitless pursuits, these clockwork simulacrums represent a controversial mechanical breakthrough. The final missing piece was one met with fierce criticism and ultimately a price on the inventor’s head: in order to function like living people, the automatons must be bound with the souls of mortals. Though Lumens claims the souls within the Simulacrums have entered them voluntarily, many authorities view this as an abhorrent practice of necromancy. Lumens sees it as a necessary means to break the chains binding his people, giving the ruling classes a reason to end forced labor if artificial constructs can accomplish the work for less coin.
