Shadow Over Westlook is a dark coastal-horror 5e adventure set in the isolated port town of Westlook, where a violent storm forces the heroes ashore—and by morning, their ship is gone. Stranded among rain-soaked streets, evasive townsfolk, and other outsiders who also seem unable to leave, the party begins uncovering falsified shipping records, unsettling creatures, and signs of something ancient stirring beneath the town.

Their investigation leads to the Cult of Quorenderi, worshippers of an ancient terror of the deep whose influence has quietly consumed Westlook for generations. With a ritual approaching and time working against them, the heroes must piece together the truth, navigate uneasy alliances, and descend into the tunnels beneath the town before Quorenderi’s return can be completed. The adventure begins with investigation, roleplay, and psychological horror before escalating into a combat-heavy dungeon crawl and climactic confrontation. It can be played as a standalone short campaign or as the opening chapter of the Buried Evils Saga.

The module is written for four to five characters beginning at 4th level and specifically emphasizes investigation and roleplay before moving into its more combat-focused latter portion.

Choices Matter

Westlook is working against the party from the moment they arrive. The heroes have only a limited window to investigate the town, decide who can be trusted, follow leads, and uncover the route beneath Westlook before the cult’s ritual is completed.

Their timing has real consequences. Reach the heart of Quorenderi’s Bastion soon enough and the party has a chance to stop the ritual before the Deep One can return. Take too long, and the final confrontation changes dramatically—with potentially catastrophic consequences for both the heroes and the world beyond Westlook.
